Finding good work with great conditions and reasonable pay can be tough at the best of times. But if you're good at customer service you will be able to find work almost anywhere. It's great to be good at any service industry because it turns out that the same skills you use during your daily life are the same skills you'll be using to help you get the job in the first place!
So how do you go ahead and get some good at customer service work? Here are some customer service tips to get you started on your way:
1. Read some books on the subject. I often read more than one book at a time, and focus on books that are about communication and influence. The reason is that because I'll be communicating with people more often, I'll need to be very good at it. Influence is a major part of being able to communicate in your work too. If you've got the ability to get people to see what you see, and agree with you, then you'll be great at customer service (and selling too!)
2. Listen to audio books on how some of the major companies and sales people have achieved so much with their customer service skills. These tapes and recordings can be very motivational and educational. I find myself listening to one or two different things each week. Even good comedians have some great value because of the way they present themselves on stage. These skills are the cornerstone to any good customer service interaction. Pay attention to your audience, and you'll get results faster.
3. Entertain your customers and clients. When you talk, express yourself in what you say. When you say "fast" say it fast!. This makes sense to the mind, and the whole person's body gets caught up in the experience of having a great customer service interaction. And hey, if you're enjoying yourself while you're throwing yourself right into the situation, your customer probably is too. You'll find yourself having more fun and getting more done.
The keys to good customer service still reside in the ability to communicate to others, so make this your primary skill to develop and you'll go a long way when it comes to doing better at these kinds of jobs. Use the skills every day in your family life, at home, in your sports team and at work. Be the person you want to be!
